About the Artist
Bay Area native Jason Webster soon found himself on the other side of the world. Years spent in South East Asia had an undeniable influence on him personally and in turn artistically. Sculptures such as Hanuman and The Flying Tin Men wear that brand.
After earning a Bachelor's Degree in Sculpture from Maryland Institute College of Art his education has continued with a wide range of artistic apprenticeships. He has worked with distinct regional artists such as JoeSam., William Wareham, Peter Mangan, and Jennifer Ewing. These experiences have lead him to tackle many mediums in the process including metal, glass, faux finishing, site-specific installations, jewelry, public art, and most recently art conservation.
A certified welder, Jason works out of his studio in Hunters Point San Francisco. He shows his sculptures regularly around the Bay Area and is proud to have his first one man show at Joyce Gordon Gallery.
About the Exhibit
The Flying Tin Men will be performing their trapeze act for a limited engagement at Joyce Gordon Gallery. Gathered to witness this event is a curious cast of metal sculptures. They are all indigenous of the Eight Pointed Star, the molten core of which has twisted and branched off into many directions. This is the place where metal sculptor Jason Webster draws his artistic inspiration.
On this star, within the luminous plasma, Violet and Daisy emerge from their watery oasis. Conjoined they stand under a fiery tree, gazing into the powerful light which surrounds them. Though they are quite content to exist within the serenity of the lily pond, they could not help surfacing so that they might witness the spectacle.
