Opposition: Local and International Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking and Video Arts
July 3, 2005 - July 28, 2005

About the Exhibit
The Joyce Gordon Gallery is currently hosting 22 global artists in an exhibition titled "Opposition." The exhibit is an international, political and generational tour de force featuring artists from the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Brazil, United States, Poland, and Hungary. As debates rage worldwide about issues concerning ideological and political polarization, the artists in "Opposition" explore the ongoing nature of the creative spirit as a catalyst for reinvention, progress, freedom, and inclusion.

According to the curator, Rodney Artiles, "Opposition" is a perspective and a statement by three generations about what is happening in the world at this moment. "Art is arguably born of a drive to oppose opposition. a drive toward opposing as an on going activity through time. Art's nature is to defeat its own parameters by way of the new meanings it takes on from one generation to the next." For this exhibit, Artiles has gathered an impressive group of highly recognized and up and coming artists that represent diverse visual and creative disciplines including video art, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, and poetry.
