Williams, a Chicago native residing in the Bay Area since 1997, is one of the most talented young artists on the national and Bay Area art
scene. With a BA in Architecture from Cornell University, this former Ford/Mellon Research Fellow has taken her passion for painting to
extraordinary heights. In addition to the Emerging Artist Award, she was one of the artists chosen by the Studio Museum in Harlem to participate
in the highly acclaimed 2004 exhibit "Harlem World: Metropolis as Metaphor." Williams has also exhibited in top museums in the country including
the Wilmer Jennings Gallery in New York and the Southshore Cultural Center Art Gallery in Chicago.
About the Exhibit
In her newest exhibit, "Days. Paint. Years", Williams masterfully incorporates mementos from family, friends and strangers into her signature photo
transfer collages on oil painted canvases and wood. Themes of love, fear, loss and forgiveness are explored as the emotions and reminiscences behind
which everyone has a story. Williams' painting process is similar to the compilation of memories and events that make up the story of our lives.
Of this body of work, Williams states: "The days paint the years. It is a layering of moments, memories, colors and sounds. precise in meaning, but
almost never accurate."
